Pest Control Auckland
The Argentine Ant is an introduced species from Argentina, and is common in Auckland. Mostly the Argentine Ant lives
outside but has been known to nest in buildings. The Agrentine Ant will be become New Zealand's most common Ant as by shear numbers
it is already displacing other Ants. Chances are the Argentine Ant is coming your home soon.
HOW DO I KNOW IT'S AN ARGENTINE ANT? The Argentine Ant is a fearless, and will run up your finger if you put it on a trial.
The Argentine Ant is brown to dark brown and it is only one size. The Argentine Ant does not sting but does bite. The are known to carry
disease ( streptoccous and thrush). Some people can be allergic to their bite. If you squash one between your fingers they lack a strong ant
smell, but have a buttery odour instead
WHAT IF I LEAVE THEM ALONE? The Agrentine Ant cooperates between nests, thus nine nests surrounding your house will act as
one very large nest. The longer you leave it the bigger the problem becomes.
WHAT CAN I DO? Argentine Ants do not respond to Ant baits from the supermarket.
TREATMENT:An initial inspection is important to establish where the nest are. If there are nests inside the house or building
then treatment of the house or building should be delayed for a few days while the ants are baited. Once the nests are destroyed or reduced
then a standard treatment of the house can be used to ensure Ants in the future don't follow the chemical trails into the house or building.
